After much debate (in my own mind) I finally decided to use Wordpress for Natetronn.com. One of the reasons why I had not been completely sold on Wordpress was because the way it handles themes and site design in general. Well I got over that and am slowly piecing this baby together.
I also tried a few (will only mention a few this time) other cms/blog platforms, which I liked allot but were not quite the complete package I was looking for including:
Cushycms – This is a neat little cms brought to you buy the same guys who made that money saving site Retail Me Not. You just add the “cushycms” class to any part of the site you want to edit, it’s that easy. There is a nice tutorial over at nettuts.com which is definitely worth checking out.
Viviti – I really liked how this cms worked. I think this will be a nice option for those looking for an easy way to edit websites. Viviti, as I write this, is still in beta yet there were allot of nice options already setup for their users. I had put a bit of time in over at their forum and some time using their system with my design. I really had a good time and wish the Viviti Team the best of luck.
Expression Engine – I like this cms and I think its very nice as far as themes goes. I would have probably used it if it wasn’t for the fact that I have plans of using natetronn for commercial endeavors and at this point was pretty sold on free (Wordpress.) There is a non-profit or for personal use license so make sure you check it out.
All three of these cms’s will definitely stay in my bookmarks and I can almost guarantee I will be using them for future projects and or client sites.
If anyone is looking for some more thoughts on content managements systems I will be posting again in the near future I can assure you.
